The Word is the Word

THE WORD IS THE WORD

My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22 New King James Version).

God’s word is life.  I repeat, God’s word is LIFE!  When we give attention to the Word of God, we bring life into our hearts.  Before meeting the Lord, we were probably depressed, lonely, dry…maybe we didn’t even realize we were sick with any of these maladies; but when we came to Christ, and opened up the Word of God for the first time, we were filled with health, not just spiritually, but perhaps even physically! Jesus is the Word made flesh, and the bread of Life; He gives life giving food and water. Believing in Him gives us eternal life and by His grace that we are saved!

Christianity is not a list of “do’s” and “don’t’s”, it’s a lifestyle of Christ-like living; it’s knowing we are human, capable of stumbling and falling sometimes, but God is perfectly able to pick us back up and dust us off if we just admit our mistakes and repent. It’s being obedient to the commandments of God, as well as putting others ahead of ourselves.  But we cannot walk this walk without the life-giving word of God.  It’s His Word guiding us, illuminating the path we walk, and directing our steps.  It’s His word helping us navigate stormy waters and teaching obedience.  God’s word penetrates our hearts in our darkest and most desperate hours, bringing light to chase away the dark.  When we read His word, study it even, it will not depart from our eyes, and it will keep in the midst of our hearts, coming forth when we need it most.

Church, don’t let the Word go.  Don’t be stagnant in your pursuit of God and life for your soul.  Whatever you are going through, there is an answer, a direction, a story that will speak to your situations.

Let’s Pray:  Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this brand new day!  Thank You for the mercy that You have extended to us and for the blessings You are showering upon us.  Father, may we never depart from Your Word.  Your Word brings life and health, it is our lamp and our rock.  May we hide it deep in our hearts and may we draw strength from its well.  Father, You are glorious and beautiful, You are faithful and true.  The promises that You have made in Your word are promises that You always keep, may we grab hold of Your promises and not let go!  We love You and we desire to please You.  We bow low in humble worship and we exalt You with our praise!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Attitude of Worship: Examine your Word diet.  Is His Word in you?  If not, take some time to out to read and digest Scripture, you won’t be sorry!

The Bible is God’s chart for you to steer by, to keep you from the bottom of the sea, and to show you where the harbor is, and how to reach it without running on rocks or bars. ~Henry Ward Beecher
