Something About That Name

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth (Philippians 2: 9-10).

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Who can ever get tired of saying it? I know I can’t! And yet, there are many who try to stop others from saying His name. Well, maybe they just haven’t said His name correctly enough to feel the power behind it. Maybe they have only taken His name in vain, or swore oaths by it. Go ahead, say His name – JESUS! Ooh, doesn’t that make ya feel good? Now, think of an area in your life in which you may be struggling…after you’ve thought of it, say His name again. Don’t you feel better now? The name of Jesus is power, it is strength, it is salvation, hope, peace, joy, love, acceptance, shelter, guidance and so much more! When we speak the name of Jesus, we are calling on the King of kings and the Lord of lords!

Jesus has given us power and authority in His name. When we pray in Jesus’ name, it is no joke. He will grant it; does that mean we’ll get the new car or HDTV we’ve wanted? Maybe not; God answers prayers according to His will. If it is God’s will to bless us with those new items, then so be it! However, throughout the gospels we see the authority we have in Jesus’ name – we receive Him when we receive children in His name (Matthew 18:5; Mark 9:37; Luke 9:48), where two or three are gathered in His name, He is there (Matthew 18:20), in His name we will cast out demons, speak with new tongues (Mark 16:17). There is no limit to what we can do in Jesus’ name, we are only limited by our inability to speak it and believe in it.

Let’s Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this day! You are great and mighty! You are our creator and our hope; our shelter and our peace! We know that we can trust You and that You desire to withhold no good thing from us! Father, we thank You for sending Your son Jesus to die so that we could live! We praise You for a living Savior! Jesus, we come to You, broken, hurting and in need of what You have for each of us. Jesus, we submit ourselves completely to You! Take our lives and guide us, speak to us, teach us, mold us, shape and fashion us into Your likeness. We exalt and praise Your name! We lift You up and sing to You! May our voices never stop shouting Your praises and glorifying You! May our lives be total worship of You in spirit and in truth. We bow before You, we love You Jesus! In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Attitude of Worship: Spend some time rolling the name of Jesus across your tongue today. When His name is spoken, all else seems insignificant in comparison. Enjoy Jesus today!

“The Gospel that represents Jesus Christ, not as a system of truth to be received, into the mind, as I should receive a system of philosophy, or astronomy, but it represents Him as a real, living, mighty Savior, able to save me now.” ~Catherine Booth
