God Has Your Back!

The Lord’s promises are pure,
like silver refined in a furnace,
purified seven times over.
Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed,
preserving them forever from this lying generation,
even though the wicked strut about,
and evil is praised throughout the land (Psalm 12:6-8 New Living Translation).

Since Monday, I’ve been doing an intense personal bible study through the Psalms. I’ve read through them many times, but this time I am seeing things I never picked up on before. As I read and reflect on each Psalm, I find I am seeing more of our political climate revealed to me and how I must implicitly trust God during these days. My heart has been hurting for the nations and the people.

We don’t have much time before Jesus comes back. This I believe wholeheartedly. Wickedness and fear permeate this world; I know the devil roams about as a lion, seeking whom he may devour, and we hear more and more of him getting his way. Government corruption and oppression, famines, poverty, wars- all prominent news items now, yet as I have studied the first fifteen Psalms this week, I have begun to understand the deep faith and trust in God the Psalmist had. We must grasp this faith as well! Subscribing to fear because of news reports is not a healthy way to live out our Christian life, nor must we seek out bad news simply to prove our point. We must all wait and trust in the Lord, our lives are His, we are no longer our own. He sees everything going on; there is not one person who escapes His scrutiny. He knows the hearts of every man and every nation. To withstand the oppression we are surely going to face, we must turn to God in intercession for the governments and nations, and trust Him to hear and answer our prayer.

Despite everything going on around us, whether close to home, or across the oceans, God has our back. We simply have to choose to accept it.

Let’s Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of a new day! Your mercies are new every morning and we ask for mercy today so we are able to show mercy. Father, cleanse our hearts and give us a spirit of intercession for all men. Your word commands us to pray for all men, yet we falter in this, forgive us for not seeking Your face and subscribing to fear instead. Father, turn the hearts of the fathers towards the children, and the hearts of the children towards the fathers – let not one soul on this earth be un-prayed for. Burden Your intercessors, prophets and Church to unite in prayer, taking back the ground we have allowed the enemy to gain. Strengthen our hearts to lean on You and trust You for rescue, for provision and for the courage to do what You have called each of us to do. May You have mercy on governments, on the nations, on the oppressors who turn to You. You are God and there is no other, there is none so powerful and mighty as You. We bow low in worship, offering You sacrifices of praise. We love You and trust You for vindication. In Jesus’ powerful name, we pray. Amen.

Today’s Attitude of Worship: Contend for the faith, just because you haven’t seen an answer to your prayer, don’t give up praying. The Psalms are wonderful testimonies to waiting on God and trusting Him for deliverance. It doesn’t matter what you face, God has your back.
