Freedom is Worth Fighting For
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2 New King James Version).
I’m not much of a Sci-fi buff, but one of my favorite movie trilogies is The Matrix. I’ve seen all three a few times, and while I did not quite “get it” at first, it was airing on a cable channel not too long ago and this time I think I “got it.” As I watched the first movie for the first time in a few years, I was struck by the analogy of humans being used to power a super computer. In one scene there were endless pods, vertically and horizontally, each filled with a human plugged in and growing from infancy with the plug as the umbilical cord. It was explained that existence wasn’t really existence in the Matrix, as everything known was not as it seemed to be. Truth could be had by taking the red pill, and discovering actual reality. Joining the resistance meant one was really living despite the conditions; freedom was worth the fight.
As I watched the movie, the Holy Spirit began to reveal some things to me. We must cling ever tighter to Christ and lean on His Word for wisdom and understanding. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life; to deviate from this puts us in danger. While The Matrix is a story, if we are not careful, we will wake up one day and realize we are no longer in control of our lives. Every day there is news of more encroachment into our freedoms to make us into someone else’s ideal of who we should be, and every day, we give them more of ourselves.
We live in a world where we have a common enemy. We are not to dwell on him, but we must be aware of his moves and how he works. He’s sneaky and conniving, Jesus called him the father of all lies. I’m not attempting to be political, however, there is governmental encroachment into our lives and we allow it. Government seeps into our lives a little at a time. If we don’t stop the leak, before we know it, we’ve got no control over anything. There will be no perfect uniqueness in our individuality, only uniformity and conformity to government standards.
Church, we must wake up! This is not the time to sleep and wait for someone else to do something, to let someone else handle what we are capable of handling ourselves. Don’t believe the lie that one person isn’t significant enough to do anything. Read your Bible, it is filled with examples of one person standing up for many and being victorious. Oh, we often quote “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4 NKJV)“, but we behave as if we don’t believe it for ourselves.
Freedom is worth fighting for. Jesus thought so, He came to set the captives free, and He has set us free by His death and resurrection. It is time to stand up and speak out. This country is run by purveyors of fear and greed, enforcing the belief that we are not capable of making sound decisions without their input, and they have stuck their hands in most aspects of family life with the intention of tearing families apart. Government and greed have infiltrated our food supply, our schools, our churches, our workplaces, our finances and our health. Fight back, freedom is worth fighting for.
Our battle does not need to be big and dramatic. It starts at home. We must research everything, and not trust something just because we’re told to, we must ask God for wisdom to make decisions. We must teach our children the ways of God, teach them how to stand up for what they believe in and give them something to believe in. Teach them how to fend for themselves and work hard, to celebrate the benefit of the fruits of their labor. Teach them to pray and trust God. Teach them to be available for God to use them. Teach them to cook, clean, have respect and love for others, and a desire to keep learning. We must pay attention to what is in our food and what we feed our children, it’s surprising and disgusting to discover how many governmentally allowed chemicals are in our food. If it’s chemically enhanced, don’t eat it. Stand up for an education system where teachers teach and students learn; government should not dictate how, when and what our children should learn. We are our family’s advocate and Jesus is ours. If we don’t stand up and push back now, future generations will face a choice – perhaps to decide whether or not to take the red pill. Freedom is worth fighting for.
Shalom ♥
