I’ve been thinking about fear and how as a nation, we are taught from a very young age to fear. And this lesson is not a healthy fear of the Lord, either, it’s the media and politicians fear mongering to gain footholds into every facet of the American household. Fear is the weapon used to encroach upon and infiltrate our lives, it is one of the deadliest tactics the enemy uses against people and it is one the church has fallen for.
There is a fear, however, that strikes down and halts the fear Satan uses, and it is the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is not a terrorizing, paralyzing or dread fear, it is a liberating and awe-some fear! It is a holy, reverent fear that is grounded in love. It is this perfect love that casts down the fear Satan has tried to paralyze the Church with.
Church, we must come back to the reverent fear and awe of our Holy God, only then will we gain the wisdom and boldness necessary to trample on the head of our enemy and crush the paralyzing fear mongers where they stand.
With our news focused on Ebola and/or Isis, as well as, what politicians are trying to stop the Church from doing across our nation, we must remember to separate fact from truth. Fact is, these things are happening, Truth is Jesus has already taken care of them. We must believe what He did and act upon it, but we must do it with the fear of the Lord and not the fear of the tempest.
Psalm 91: 3-6 (NKJV) “Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
Shalom!
