When I was a little girl, we used to make paper chains in school. You remember them, right? They were the ones made with colorful construction paper cut into strips and taped into circles. We made them for all kinds of reasons, but mostly because it was fun! Sometimes we would put a paper decoration on a loop of yarn and then put the chain strip through it to hold it. As a child, it was a sad, sad day when either the tape no longer held the chain, or the paper simply broke.
The Lord reminded me of these paper chains recently in a vision. He showed me big, hulking, metal chains that were unbreakable. Then He showed me very strong men bound in those chains, trying to break them with all their strength. I could see their muscles straining as well as the ligaments and tendons surrounding the muscles and joints straining. They pulled and pulled and huffed and puffed with all their might, but those chains held. They would pull and tug for a bit, and then fall down defeated and crying before trying again. Big, muscular men, weeping with such sorrow because they could not break those chains to release themselves. Then Jesus walked into the room and the captives were lit with the Light of His Love and the power of His Name. I watched those chains become corroded and break as though they were paper chains. He lifted those big men up with His hand and as they spoke His name in rejoicing praise, those chains disintegrated like old paper. I couldn’t help but rejoice to see those chains break off! Those men were now set free!
Church, Jesus is corrosive to chains, and He is in the business of breaking them, freeing the captives. All of the chains of bondage and sin were broken 2000+ years ago at the cross. The only reason they still bind us today is because we fail to allow the Light of His Love and the Power of His Name to disintegrate them. We’d rather hang on to them, thinking we can set ourselves free “if only…”
Love hung on a tree, Love paved the way to freedom, Love breaks every chain and Love liberates. Jesus is the color of Love and Jesus is the Power of Love. His Name is above every name, and there is no chain that can hold anyone once His name is spoken over it. No matter what still holds you – your chains are gone when Love’s name is spoken over them. What name are you speaking over the chains that bind you? Freedom is only a name away!
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17 NLT).
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV).
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed (Luke 4:18).
