Perspective
Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure’ (Isaiah 46:9-10 NKJV)
For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7b).
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good (Proverbs 15:3).
One evening while driving home from work during inclement weather, a car ahead of me switched lanes. From my point of view it looked as if the car moved over directly in front of the car coming up in the lane, almost as if to cut it off. It was at this point that I realized my perspective vastly differed from the person driving both of the other cars. What I saw and thought would happen did not because I was only seeing part of the picture from my limited view. I was behind the cars, not in the same area.
Our vision is restricted to what our eyes can see in the direction we are looking. Even our peripheral vision has limitations. However, God has all-around vision. He sees all things, from all directions, at all moments. He knows the end from the beginning and the heart of all matters. He knows the thoughts and intents of our hearts, the root cause of issues, the details within the details. He knows what will happen, when it will happen and the effects it will have on us. This is why it is imperative we always seek His perspective when we pray, especially when praying for others.
Praying from God’s perspective helps us to not pray our opinion or emotions into a situation or for someone. Many times we say we will pray and we jump in head first without thinking, praying from our limited knowledge of the situation. Our perspective of what is going on can limit what God wants to do in the situation, not only with the situation, but also with us. But when we ask Him first what is really going on and how He wants us to pray, we open the door for Him to move in ways we wouldn’t ordinarily think possible. There is no situation, person, or circumstance that He does not want us to seek Him first in before jumping in to pray.
I began earnestly seeking God’s perspective in prayer a few months ago. He has given me deeper insight into the people and things I pray for and opened my eyes to His hand at work. I have found it is much easier to remove my personal feelings and opinions about what I pray for when I no longer pray from my personal perspective.
Let’s Pray: Dear Papa, thank You for the grace and love You have for us. We ask that we always look upward to seek Your face and Your heart before interceding in any situation. May we have ears to hear what Heaven says before we pray and may we be in agreement with Your perspective in every situation. Keep us focused on what You have planned and purposed. Thank You. Amen.
Today’s Attitude of Worship: Before praying, ask God how He would like you to pray. Clear your heart and mind of any opinions or emotions that could hinder the direction of your prayer based on what you think you know. Listen to the Holy Spirit and pray according to what you hear from Heaven.
