Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world (1 John 2:15-16 NKJV).
Don’t compromise your spirit to satisfy the pleasure of your flesh. We live in a world that promotes immoral and sinful living as good, decent and healthy. With the internet, we are bombarded with creative and subliminal advertising. This makes needs and wants difficult to distinguish because our eyes and ears are tricked into believing “we must have because we feel we must have.” Filling our flesh with everything our eyes see and ears hear only feeds selfishness.
Sin is self-destructive. Its goal is to drive our spirits farther and farther from God, eventually numbing us to the wooing of the Holy Spirit. But Jesus conquered sin and redeemed us from being driven by and ruled by sin. Fill yourself with the word of God, prayer, and grow your relationship with Jesus. This helps to eliminate the temptation of giving in to what this world offers.
We are in this world but we are not of it.
