But that is not the way you learned Christ!— assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:20-24 ESV).
When we came to Jesus we were created new. We shed the person we were and became the new person in Him. We had a complete and total do-over, a second chance, a reinventing of ourselves. We were given new purpose and a new outlook. We no longer had to behave or think the way we used to, our spiritual eyes had been opened and we could see the world as it is.
The world, however, never wants to relinquish its grip. We must continuously renew our minds through Scripture, prayer and regular fellowship with other believers. We may live in this world but we are no longer of it and must stop trying to look like the world. We must not go along to get along, but actively walk according to the Spirit of God and bring heaven into this world.
Step back today and reassess your identity through the mirror of Scripture. In Christ we live and move and have our being, we are seated with Him in heavenly places and the same spirit that raised Him from the dead lives in us. Let go of who you used to be and embrace who you are in Jesus!
